Clickbank Problems

Apparently, many Clickbank customers have been having a decrease in sales because Clickbank has been having problems with their credit card processing software.  It has been rejecting cards.  Here is a post from Merchant Account Forum that describes this problem.

Based on discussions with merchants over the last couple of months it would appear that the low cost merchant account provider Clickbank is losing popularity in favour of other third party processors.

The reason for this is Clickbank’s unfortunate credit card verification process which seems to be refusing many perfectly valid credit cards.

Not only does this mean it is becoming more difficult for international merchants to get an account (because the Clickbank website won’t let them pay the activation fee) but also Clickbank may well be losing your website perfectly legitimate orders.

Many merchants have been complaining about a drop in sales over the last few months, coupled with a growing list of dissatisfied customer emails explaining that their credit card, which is perfectly valid, keeps getting refused when they try to order.

This is something to consider and watch out for when you are choosing a merchant account provider.  Make sure they don’t have a bad track record in credit card acceptance.  Go to Honest Merchant Report for more help in choosing.  See ya next time!

A Look at PayPal

I would like to uncover a common misconception about the merchant account industry. Most people think that they can simply get a PayPal account for free and it will handle their shopping cart for their website. It will handle their shopping cart, but it is far from free.  In fact, it can be much more expensive than some of the paid monthly services out there.  The type of product or service you offer will determine which merchant account provider is right for you. So, if you have big ticket items like stereo equipment that you sell daily, then PayPal is a terrible option for you.  Why?  Because they charge a percentage of the sales price of your goods.  If  you are selling big ticket items you will be also paying PayPal big ticket prices so a pay per month service would be a better option for you. Pay Per Month services usually charge a one-time setup fee, a monthly gateway fee, and a small per transaction fee.  So if you are selling big ticket items, you will benefit in the long run by making the Pay Per Month choice.

On the other hand, if you are a start-up business with little ticket items and low sales volume, then PayPal is perfect.  However, be on the lookout for volume increases, because when your product or service starts selling like hotcakes, you’ll be paying through the nose.
